As the weather here in San Diego dips down to a chilly low 60s (brrr), we wish you all a beautiful holiday season! Below is a sneak peek of this year’s holiday card. Gold foil kisses this laser cut, hunter green paper.
It’s official :: the NEW KYMERA WEBSITE will launch JANUARY 1, 2014!
Why am I surprised that our new site design is taking longer than anticipated?? Probably because we have such a well structured process for all of our clients that I assumed this would apply to our new site design as well. But as spectacular as this new site will be I have to remember we are squeezing it in between paying client work – to the bottom of the priority list with you, new site! And with a full schedule of client work (no complaints here!), that doesn’t leave much time for personal work. But I can tell you that the front end design is complete. Karl has begun the development, and I am now putting together the gorgeous new portfolio items. I think late November would be a good estimate of the launch date – fingers crossed.
In other news, I have begun this year’s holiday card design. These are always such a blast to design because I can do whatever my heart desires. And this year it desires thick hunter green paper with gold foil. Stay tuned for photos.
Happy Friday to you all! We’ve been super busy with exciting new projects I can’t wait to share. JiST’s freshly squeezed site has just launched. As big foodies ourselves, we are highly enjoying such work. There is no tastier research.
And, as always, behind the scenes our newly designed site continues to be created and will launch around late October.
The next sites we’ll be launching will be in the next couple months. Hint: they are both Napa Valley Wineries. Cheers!
Sorry for the radio silence this past month! We have been entrenched in the absurd process that is buying southern California real-estate. But we are finally approaching the finish line – hallelujah!
In Kymera news…our new site design is coming along beautifully! It’s so exciting to be able to design a site for ourselves that utilizes some of today’s cool new technologies. We will continue to work on this between client work; giving us an anticipated launch date of early October. Stay tuned for the total transformation!
We are super excited to share the new logo for jist, a fresh, new brunch-friendly cafe in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. We worked with Alice Shin on the Kogi BBQ project, and were very excited when she asked us to work on her family’s new restaurant venture as well.
Need to swing by at 5am for your chashu and eggs? Want fluffy, hand-mixed pancakes delivered to your door by 8am? Done. The chef will be serving classic American breakfast dishes that pay homage to his roots as well as Little Tokyo.
Our goal with this logo was to design an engaging, simple and direct mark that has an edgy sense of fun and suggests some neo-American nostalgia of Cap’n Crunch pancakes, charsiu and eggs and PB&J; but with a classically-trained devotion to good food. It’s for people who love great food without the pretensions.
We will be beginning their website design in early August – so keep an eye out for it in Fall! (their temporary splash page will be launching within the next few days)
The time has come for the Kymera website redesign! I still can’t believe July is right around the corner. So with iced coffee in hand, I am crafting website version 4.0. The new site will take full advantage of all the great new technologies and features available today. I certainly don’t miss the days of tiny sites with internal scroll bars. Am I right?! I digress.
Though designing for ourselves does offer the freedom to do whatever our heart’s desire, I need to remind myself to err on the side of less-is-more. I feel the best portfolio sites are more minimal; letting the work speak for itself. We’ll probably be launching around early Fall – stay tuned!
I wanted to share a sneak peek at Cantadora’s new leave behind booklet. It has a very cool “soft touch” finish that helps seal in the large areas of black ink, while also providing a very cool texture to the paper. I am aiming to photograph this piece and Marie’s affirmation cards later this week. Keep an eye out for them on our portfolio soon!
Happy Friday to you all! I’ve been thinking about this post for a few weeks now; it’s definitely a topic I feel very passionately about. Hopefully it will inspire you too!
Karl and I discovered Baja Dog Rescue a year and a half ago when we rescued our beloved pup, Sadie. Since then, we have enjoyed donating our design services to this well-deserving dog rescue charity. We’ve always had a soft spot in our hearts for animal rescue organizations, and have contributed as much as we could financially. But there is always a limit you can spend, and if you’re like me, it can sometimes feel like it’s never enough. Enter volunteering! I can’t tell you how giddy it makes me to design up a storm for anything and everything this charity might need. Now imagine how much more incredible each of our communities would be if we all chose a favorite charity and donated a bit of our time?? But where to begin? Pick a group who’s mission you are passionate about. Or perhaps a group who could benefit from your particular skill set(s). Either way, there are few things in life that are as rewarding as volunteering your time.
I have to give a shout out to our favorite photographer, Jackie Wonders. She photographed our client’s shoot the other weekend in Los Angeles, and we had a blast! Karl and I like to work with people that we, well … like. Not only is Jackie ridiculously talented, but she also brings the best energy to every project she’s involved with. Can’t wait to team up with her again soon!
We have been spending A LOT of time in LA recently with some awesome new clients. It’s definitely starting to feel like our home away from home!
Speaking of, we just wrapped up two projects for the uber-talented Chef Roy Choi (pinch us!) Here’s a pic from our visit on Wednesday (which, of course, included demolishing multiple Chego! rice bowls and orders of piña krackaladas … mmm).
